32 million of India's children never attended a school before Covid-19. With the pandemic, the number of out-of-school children is likely to double[1]. By operating mini schools, children can learn safely via classes held in outdoor locations. The classes are small and typically comprise of children and teachers residing within the same hamlet. There is a great emphasis on hygiene, and all attendees are required to wear masks and sanitize their hands at regular intervals. More info can be found here. Improved access to basic necessities Asha Silicon Valley has approved funding for the setup of a sanitary napkin manufacturing unit in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, to manufacture and distribute free sanitary pads to adolescent girls in the districts of Bhilai and Durg in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. Meal programs to reduce malnutrition in Madhya Pradesh, India With the dual goal that combines tackling the most important challenges children face in the interior rural areas of Madhya Pradesh - malnutrition and education, Asha Silicon Valley partners with Parivaar to provide nutritious meals to children enabling them to learn better. Child-Friendly Spaces to reduce school dropouts during the post-flood season in Assam Asha Silicon Valley is funding the setup of two child-friendly spaces meant to serve as temporary classrooms immediately after floods in Assam's flood-prone districts. This will help ensure that education is not disrupted for children affected by natural disasters and can continue being taught while their classrooms undergo repair.
